Robin Renee is not what one expects.  She,s hip-hop diva sexy on the cover of her new CD, In Progress.  But this out bisexual African-American artist from South Jersey sings her own brand of tough, almost punk-y rock and roll, with a dash of singer-songwriter and a host of other spices in the mix.  Renee, who,s also a poet, sings her 13 well-written songs in a unique voice that makes up in texture and toughness what it lacks in range.  Her songs go from straight-up rock (opening cut "Empire truly kicks), to more reflective and subtle folk-pop, such as the lovely "Butterfly Jar.  There,s even some power pop ("I Could Love You), touches of soul ("Spiritual Ink) and blues ("Salt Lake Mirror), and smoochy love songs too.  Robin Renee has a lot to say and she says it well.  Give her a listen.
